06.09.2011 - Andrea Righi - Biopolitics and Social Change in Italy: From Gramsci to Pasolini to Neg

The adventurous discovery of the course of Leuven confirms what has been the problem that has guided from start to finish, the work of Michel Foucault: that of truth, in its relations with subjectivity. A truth here declined in the form peculiar and unique in the history of the West, that of confession. The heart of these lessons, in fact, is the reconstruction of the device that goes from the penitential practices in early Christianity to the procedures for submission and self veridiction coenobitic in monasticism. It is there, according to Foucault, which was set up a new kind of subjectivity, is now inextricably linked to the obligation of the minutes of the offense committed and the duty of exploration of the arcane conscientiae, Christian core of classification of individual existence. Through the progressive generalization and extension of a hermeneutics that puts you to search for in the "inner hole of conscience" in the grip of lust and the secret truth of the soul, Foucault cockpit band diagnoses the birth of a form of government of the individuals intended to invest the life in its entirety, to the court of the contemporary techniques and procedures for the medicalization of life, the origin of all psychologies that will demand, for there forward, to decipher the mysteries of the soul, making us believe that only in this way we will be able to access the freedom and truth. Is it then right to challenge them that Foucault's push to make the only imperative and the only prescription I've ever uttered: "I do not ever confess!"
